Wife Swap Australia

I love a good bit of trash TV. I find it as stress relieving as a yoga class – strange but true! And they don’t come much better than Wife Swap Australia, currently screening on the Lifestyle You Channel on Foxtel.

Wife Swap Australia follows exactly the same format as the UK and USA series. Two families are selected for each episode and they get to swap wives between their families for a few weeks. Naturally they team up families with families of opposing styles and views eg. The hippie family with the high achieving tightly scheduled family. And all of this makes for some very compelling TV.

The producers have adapted this show extremely well for Australia (like they did with the local version of Come Dine with Me) and I am really enjoying the Australian series as it is more familiar and relevant in its themes and families i.e. bogan vs posh, private school vs public school.

What I find fascinating about Wife Swap, is that more often than not, both families learn a lot from the experience and from the different styles of parenting. It just goes to show that there are no right or wrong ways to parent and that we can all learn from each other at times, rather than being so set in our ways and quick to judge. So whilst it is compelling viewing from an “Oh my god, how do people live like that?” way, there is a bit of a message that we can all take some advice from!
