Water For Elephants Movie Review

03-Jul-2011 By SD
What a pleasant surprise this movie was! I had read the book less than a year ago, and whilst I enjoyed it, it wouldn’t do down as one of my all-time favourites so I wasn’t rushing to then see this at the cinema when it came out.

Additionally, whilst I do think that Robert Pattison is very cute (and I know this will make some readers groan) I thought his acting in the Twilight films was pretty weak so I wasn’t keen on seeing more films in which he starred.

But despite all of this, I did end up seeing the movie and I found the whole film thoroughly enjoyable. The casting was great and each of the actors really nailed their parts. And there was even chemistry between Robert Pattison and Reece Witherspoon, which I had found hard to imagine prior to seeing the movie. Christophe Waltz was perfectly cast as August – when I was reading the book I had already cast him in my mind – and he captured the character brilliantly.

The overall look and feel of the movie was of a high production quality and they certainly did a great job of producing the mood of the times and the feel of the circus. The film followed the book quite faithfully and I felt that the pace of the movie was also one of its strong points – it kept you continually engaged and had very few, if any, slow points.

This is a great movie to see with friends, partners, anyone. It is highly enjoyable, well-acted and lovingly produced. Well worth seeing.
