Top Tips To Turn Your Financial Life Around

28-May-2011 By Simon
Like many people, I have a weird relationship with money which has led to some ugly experiences. It has taken quite a few years of learning from my mistakes and advice from financial advisors to help turn my financial security around.

Here are some of the most important things I believe you can do to secure your financial future. Some of them are clichés, but they are absolutely on the money (pardon the pun!):

1. First and foremost spend less than you earn – it really is the key to financial success.

2. Try not to rely on someone else, like a partner, husband or boyfriend, for your financial knowledge and security. Educate yourself about money management and investing.

3. Set goals and stick to a budget – sounds like common sense but it is true.

4. Build yourself an emergency fund. Without one, losing your job or incurring a large unexpected bill could force you to take on heavy credit card debt, and could put you into a financial hole that will be difficult if not impossible to dig your way out of.

5. Be involved in the day-to-day management of your household finances and talk about money with your spouse.

6. Don't take on your partner’s or spouse's debt while you are dating. Wait until you're both out of debt before tying the knot.

7. Invest in yourself- your skills, your experience, your education is crucial. Your job and future career is the most important aspect of financial independence and security. 8. If you don't know what to do with money, look for someone who does. Make sure they are someone you can trust who has a solid reputation or credibility as far as money management and financial investment are concerned.
