Thai Massage Popularity

Have you noticed that Thai Massage places seem to be popping up everywhere these days? Take a look at any main street shopping strip in any suburb, and more than likely you’ll find a Thai Massage Shop. A couple of years ago it was the Manicure/Pedicure Bars that were opening left, right and centre – now the latest trend is massage.

So are they better or worse than the more traditional message outlets? Well here’s my take on the benefits and disadvantages.

The main benefit to me is that they are easily accessible. In the first place I love to be able to walk to my massage, as getting in a car after feeling so relaxed can sometimes quickly un-do all the benefits. They are all open long hours and are open on Sundays – which is usually my favourite time for a massage as I have the time to take it all in. And finally, in most cases you can just walk in without making an appointment – which is great as you don’t have to be so super-planned about it all. And you can respond to those days when your body aches all over for some reason without having to miss out on a massage because you didn’t make a prior booking.

The main disadvantage is that the service can be very hit and miss. Sometimes I have had the most amazing massage, but others have been quite disappointing. But I suppose that this is the trade-off for the convenience.

Overall, if you get regular massages I’d recommend that you find a professional masseur that gives you the massage you want so you are guaranteed to get what you pay for. But for the occasional user, like me, I think these are a great new service and I’m not surprised that they are popping up all over town!
