Never Let Me Go Movie Review

10-Apr-2011 By SD
I was very excited to see this film. I had read some very good reviews and it was starring one of my current most-loved actors – Carey Mulligan. So I don’t know if it was this heightened anticipation and expectation but overall I felt this movie was just didn’t quite hit the mark. Quite ho-hum. Just ok. It wasn’t terrible, but it was not something that I would tell my friends to rush out and see.

The premise of the story is a very interesting one, but I feel that the script may have let it down. The movie is based on a book that I have not read, so maybe you’d get more out of it by reading the book. Because I felt that it was overall a bit sparse and lacked some depth and a better script may have rectified that. I know that this sparseness was what the director was trying to create, but in my mind it went a bit too far.

However, I do have to mention Carey Mulligan and her outstanding performance in this film. She did not disappoint in the slightest and I am continually amazed at how good this girl is. In my opinion she carried this movie almost single handedly (she certainly showed up Keira Knightly, thought that is not hard!) and she is certainly one of those actors whose movies I will see simply because she is in them.

So no rush to see this one. It is enjoyable and entertaining but if you are time poor and being selective, I wouldn’t put this at the top of your list.
