My Favourite iPhone Apps

16-Oct-2010 By Linda
By no stretch of the imagination am I a technical person and I’m quite happy to hang onto my mobile phone until it actually stops working. I had to replace my last phone because “the brick”, as it was known, didn’t fit into any of the dainty little pockets in handbags designed for the sleek new mobile phones.

So, I’ve only just recently purchased my first iPhone, and I wasn’t sure what I’d think of it. Phones to me are for phone calls and texts and I don’t really use my phone for anything else. Well, until now – you see. Nerdy as it may be, I love a good puzzle and I’ve stumbled across a couple of apps that are completely addictive for the puzzle lover.

Chicktionary – in the three minute speed play, seven little chickens sit in their roosts squawking away, each with a designation letter.

The aim is to make as many 3+ letter words as you can in three minutes. It’s a bit like the Sydney Morning Herald’s Target puzzle, only there’s no compulsory letter to use, plurals are in and so are three letter words. It’s fun, and the chicken noises still make me laugh, and I get stares from those who don’t know what I’m doing. It’s a fun way to spend a few spare minutes – but watch out – it’s addictive!

iAssociate2 – another word game of course! This one takes a little longer than three minutes. You start with one word, then there are perhaps four or five word associations, the only clue you get is how many letters are in the word or phrase. Once you get the next word, more associations pop up and branch out.

So the first word might be “crazy”, then you enter “nuts” which spins off into “peanut”, and “mind” which spins off to “A beautiful mind”. You have to think very laterally and that’s where the fun comes in. Another great game that you can spend five minutes on the bus with or five hours waiting at the airport.
