Getting Your Colours and Style Done

29-Oct-2010 By Linda
I have to admit, I’m not one of those women who love fashion or shopping. I love looking great, and dressing up, but I find the whole business of shopping for clothes a bit daunting and the choices sometimes baffling. I’ve got my share of those dreadful items we all have hidden in the back of our wardrobes – you know the ones that you must have bought after a few drinks as there’s really no other excuse – the disasters you just can’t bear to throw out because you spent so much on them but can’t wear them out as your self esteem, or other half, just won’t let you go public in. W

Well, I was changing jobs and looking for some advice on how to present myself and ended up getting a full colour and style consultation. After agreeing to the price I hung up and immediately and went into post purchase shock – what on earth had I just paid for??? It isn’t cheap.

So it was with some trepidation that I opened my front door to the stylist – yes, my front door! Not only did I have to worry about how I looked but what did my flat look like and what would that say about me? I needn’t have wasted the two hours shoving all the clutter into my bedroom, as the light was better in there for my colours, so we cheerfully picked through the debris and headed to the window.

Anyway, within a few minutes I began to feel relaxed and to enjoy the process – I’d paid and I wanted the advice, so I was just going to go with it. I’m not sure I can tell the difference between the shades of colours, but I have to say that the colours Elena picked for me are ones that I often get compliments on. I was fascinated by the process of working out what works best for me in colours and the clothes that would best suit my body shape. I learnt some great tips about how to dress for different occasions – and I don’t just mean dinner and a movie compared to a formal ball. I’m talking about what message am I sending with the clothes I wear? Is this what I want to be communicating? Am I distracting from what I want to be saying by the clothes that I’m wearing? It was really interesting stuff.

And the style and colour tips mean that when I go shopping I’m looking for quite specific items, so there’s much less confusion. And as I know now which styles won’t suit me I can skip that awful trip to the change room with an item that just doesn’t work. In the end I thoroughly enjoyed my day with Elena., She is completely down to earth, professional and knowledgeable and one look at her will tell you she knows her stuff about style and colour. I feel more confident about shopping and I even enjoy it now and then! For more info see http://www.elenareed.com.au/
