Breakfast At Tiffanys Book Review

I’m sure that the number of people who have read the book that the infamous movie starring Audrey Hepburn (and her Givenchy wardrobe) is based on is tiny compared to those who have seen the movie. Which is a terrific shame, as this book is a masterpiece. A modern classic it certainly is.

I was surprised to discover, when I purchased the book, that Breakfast at Tiffanys is in fact a short story. I think it would be a stretch to call it a novel. But what a wonderful story is captured in those few pages, and the character of Holly Golightly is simply magical.

I have read a few books by Truman Capote, who wrote “Breakfast at Tiffanys”, and there is no doubt he has a certain journalistic style of writing which is yet again present in this book. The strength of this is that he is able to write so succinctly and he has such a beautiful turn of phrase. The characters he creates are so rich and full, that you immediately draw them into your mind and into your heart.

I absolutely loved reading this book and in many ways I enjoyed it more than the movie – especially the ending which is remarkably different to the movie. Also, if you are time poor, this would be a great read as you could get through it in no time at all. A rich and satisfying read, it is a must for any book lover.
