BBC Inside The Human Body Review

13-Jul-2011 By Simon
BBC’s new program ‘Inside the Human Body’ is an amazing program. Such an emotive, touching, educating, thought-provoking series about what happens to the human body at various stages of life. In this day and age of the daily news we are sadly accustomed to television channels competing amongst themselves to churn out yet another trashy show, all in the name of so-called "reality", consisting of either minor celebrities or wannabees.

Last week’s program concentrated on what happens to your body near the end of its life and focused on a gentleman called Gerald. Gerald was in the end stages of terminal liver and lung cancer. He was also remarkably sanguine about dying. He was grateful for the 84 years he had lived, reconciled to the inevitable, and happy to become the first person in Britain to have his moment of death shown on television.

What a remarkable man Gerald was, and thanks must also be given to his family for also allowing such a personal moment to be shared.

There was so much to be gained about last week's particular episode. I fully respect the opinions of some who have argued against the airing of last week’s program, that's not to say that I understand or agree their point of course.

Death is something which will come to us all; as with everything in life, it's a subject which should be understood - the greater the education, the greater the understanding. It shouldn’t be taboo, and it shouldn't be treated as such. After all, the choice to watch or not was there for all.

Anyone who missed last week can download via iTunes/ Apple TV. I suggest you watch it because if nothing, I'm sure last night’s program will be an education to all - those going through such a situation, and their loved-ones especially.
